District 12 Release Supervision Role
District 12 is a VADOC community-corrections office in Staunton. Community corrections means supervision outside a secure prison or jail under state authority. The office serves people assigned to state probation or parole in its territory, which includes Rockbridge County. It does not hold inmates, calculate a regional-jail release, issue local booking records, or operate a release roster. A person does not get “released from District 12” in the same sense as leaving a jail.
The office becomes relevant after secure custody ends or when a court places a person on state probation. A VADOC release packet may include an Order of Release and Conditions of Probation or Conditions of Parole. Those signed documents identify the authority and duties. A DOC number, full name, age range, and current location wording can separate similar results. Preserve the exact label and retrieval time. VADOC says its locator is updated daily and warns that data may be inaccurate or out of date.
- Search with at least the first three letters of the first name plus the full last name, or use the seven-digit DOC ID.
- Use optional location, race, gender, and age filters only to narrow plausible matches, then accept the locator disclaimer.
- Read the exact custody or supervision wording. A District 12 reference supports community supervision, not final discharge.
- Compare the result with the signed release conditions, sentencing order, or Parole Board record that created the status.
- Call District 12 for current public office or reporting direction. Staff may limit private supervision details.
A no-result screen proves only that the search returned no match at that time. Spelling, a delayed update, an identifier problem, a local rather than state program, or final discharge can explain the absence. District 12 Release Supervision Contact
Use the Staunton office for current public contact and permissible state-supervision direction in the Rockbridge area. Leadership names change, so confirm them on the VADOC facilities and offices directory rather than relying on an older name. Virginia 211 also publishes a Lexington sub-office number. Release papers or the locator should identify the assigned office before a caller assumes where a person reports.
Ask a narrow question. Current office address, reporting direction, or the right public records channel may be available, while private case details may not be. District 12 Release Status Differences
Probation, parole, and pretrial supervision are distinct. Probation generally follows a court order and can accompany a suspended sentence. Parole is release under Virginia Parole Board authority for an eligible state sentence. Pretrial supervision applies while a charge remains pending and, in the Rockbridge area, can involve Blue Ridge Court Services rather than VADOC District 12. A person can also complete confinement without any community supervision.
Blue Ridge Court Services operates a Lexington office at 26 North Main Street and provides pretrial and local-probation services to Rockbridge County, Lexington, and Buena Vista. The separate layers make the agency name important. “Probation office” is too vague to establish whether the status is local pretrial supervision, local probation, or VADOC state supervision. Read the court order or release conditions before choosing an office.

District 12 Supervision Discharge Records
Release from secure custody and discharge from supervision are different events. A person may leave prison or jail, report under District 12, and later finish the supervision term. The public locator’s stated scope includes active supervisees but does not promise permanent historical visibility after final discharge. A later no-result screen therefore cannot establish the date or reason supervision ended.
For durable confirmation, request the existing VADOC supervision discharge entry or relevant order and identify the DOC number, office, and approximate dates. If a court terminated or modified probation, obtain that order from the clerk. If the issue involves parole, keep the Parole Board action and VADOC discharge record distinct. A violation, absconder status, warrant, or revocation proceeding also needs its own current official source.
